London Fashion Week SS12 Round-Up: Exotic
Next up on our Spring/Summer 2012 trend agenda is exotic, travel-inspired womenswear. A trip to Indonesia made an impression on Peter Pilotto which manifested in scuba style suits, dresses and separates with oversize black zips. There was definitely a holiday feel to the collection with tropical floral embroidery, nautical rope prints, and prints in paradise reds and pacific blues. Sharp cutting and perspex heeled shoes added modernity to the collection.
The go-to designer for summer beachwear is of course Matthew Williamson, but the fashion press were somewhat surprised by his new interpretation of the Spring/Summer season. Signature Williamson sarong style skirts, chiffon blouses and colourful floral prints still featured, but juxtaposed with sharp blazers, trousers and shorts the collection retained a summer in the city feel. Japanese blossom prints, ostrich feathers, and shell encrusted bags added an exotic edge to the vibrant palette of coral, orange and green.

Sharp tailoring also featured alongside Japanese prints in Julien Macdonalds collection which has been described at a fusion of Montecarlo and Japan. Blue dragon prints, delicate embroidery and origami tailoring are fused with ultra glamorous floor length gowns, metallic dresses, feminine fringing and oversized sunglasses.

London Fashion Week SS12 Round-Up: Pastels
It's been almost impossible to stop flicking through coverage of London Fashion Week, especially with all the live streaming and tweeting sharing instant updates from the shows. With another few days of fashion mania still to go, we thought we would offer up a little digest of one of the trends that has dominated the shows in London so far...
Pastel palettes have been prevalent at many of the season's hottest shows - quite a contrast to the brights and neons that have been the dominant for the past couple of seasons. Leading the way in candy pastels was London's treasured design duo PPQ, offering cute shirt dresses, blouses, crop tops and micro skirts alongside Southern style double denim, hot pants, and embellished jeans.
Another show that was causing quite a stir was House of Holland. The celeb guestlist which included Pixie Geldof, Marina Diamandis, Nicola Roberts and Eliza Doolittle was almost as much a topic of conversation as the show itself! Two-tone pastel shirts and shirt dresses were styled with high waisted denim and snakeskin braces to create a blend of masculine and feminine. Pink and purple tartan then followed, accessorized with braces and fishnet, echoing the punk movement of the 80's.
One show that especially stood out in London for being a rather bold collection of retro inspired pastels was Richard Nicoll. PVC, neoprene, lurex, plastic and metallic lace places a modern twist on sixties swing coats and shift dresses in baby blues, pinks and creams.
Nicoll's show in particular has provoked some fierce discussion within the fashion industry; Dolly Jones of Vogue has labelled it a 'Marmite' show - you either love it or hate it. What do you think - love or hate?
